Restaurant Refurbishment complete

We're delighted to announce that refurbishement of our restaurants Nuku and Maravu is now finished, and our refurbished restaurants are open as usual.

Congrats to our award-winning chefs!

We're so proud of our culinary team, which has just won a whopping 18 medals at the annual Moffat Salon Culinaire 2012 competition, held at the Fiji National University Nadi campus.

Salon Culinaire is Fiji's most prestigious and technically challenging culinary event, with over 200 chefs from Fijian resorts, hotels and restaurants pitting their skills against each other in a series of challenges.

Our clutch of medals included six gold medals across pastry, celebration cakes, pasta and local cuisine categories. One of our gold medalists, Chef Kenneth Rangi, received his award for an exciting two-tiered celebration cake created around a fun and modern theme, 'Kandylicious'.

Chef Kalera Nalewabau also saw off fierce competition to take away the highly-coveted 'Pastry Chef of the Year' award, continuing a tradition set by our Demi Chef Mere Rasigatale, who won the award in 2008 and 2010.

This year's Salon Culinaire was an extremely tough competition - the bar was set high, with incredibly talented chefs from around Fiji presenting their very best work to exacting technical specifications. We're absolutely thrilled that our team has achieved such outstanding success," said our Executive Chef Shane Avant, who mentored the winning team, along with Executive Sous Chef Clinton Webber.

"It's an absolute pleasure to work with such talented and hard-working chefs whose passion, energy and dedication shines through in every dish they present for our guests," continued Shane. "This recognition of their efforts and skills is thoroughly well-deserved - we're now aiming to win even more awards next year!"

Our wonderful spa therapist Reshma Dayal was also delighted to be awarded 'Therapist of the Year', while Akosita Tukana was once again a finalist in the 'Best Spa Manager' category!

Celebrity chef joins us for South Pacific Food & Wine Festival

During March, the South Pacific Food & Wine Festival celebrated the best of our region's cuisine. Denarau Island, the destination for the festival, was transformed into a foodie's paradise, with top chefs in action throughout the island, holding degustation dinners, masterclasses, market visits and tastings. Gourmands from around the world arrived to enjoy the exciting three-day programme, as well as daily happy hours and entertainment.

As part of the festival, acclaimed chef Michael Meredith, winner of Cuisine magazine's NZ Restaurant of the Year award, took the helm at Nuku, creating a four-course Signature Dinner degustation menu which perfectly showcased our wondrous local produce.

Thanks to Michael and all the international chefs, artisan food producers, organisers and food lovers who helped make the festival such a success!

NUKU CHEF A PROUD AMBASSADOR FOR FIJI

Chef Mere Rasigatale of Nuku, our acclaimed signature restaurant, has confirmed her place as one of the culinary world's rising stars, by representing Fiji in the Pacific Rim semi-finals of the prestigious Hans Bueschkens Junior Chefs Challenge 2011.

Open to chefs under 25 years old, the Challenge brings together the world's best and brightest emerging chefs, with up-and-coming talent from over 90 countries represented. Mere, who has previously won national accolades including Pastry Chef of the Year and Runner-Up Junior Chef of the Year at the 2010 National Fiji Salon Culinaire awards, was delighted to win the coveted opportunity to represent Fiji in the Challenge semi-final. In the hard-fought contest, held in July in Auckland, New Zealand, Mere competed against top young chefs from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Guam to create a three course gourmet meal for eight people in just four hours.

Mere, who narrowly missed out to Australian representative Cameron Whetton on a place at the World Final to be held in South Korea in May 2012, said: "I was very proud to represent Fiji at this world-renowned event.

"My peers were all incredibly talented, and competition was fierce. It was an exciting and challenging experience, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet each other and represent our countries at this top level. I wish Cameron the very best of luck in the world finals."

Ice-cream by the pool

We're thrilled that our New Zealand Natural Premium Ice-Cream store is open at the poolside, with all your favourite shakes, ice-cream, sorbets and more.
